Let’s take a look at the more affordable and money-saving options when it comes to remodeling your backyard. You’ll likely want to reduce water usage and maintenance costs, the highest recurring costs (besides repairs) of any landscape or hardscape implementation. Maintenance comes in many forms, from cutting/mowing any grass (save by replacing with artificial turf) to trimming of trees and bushes. Most of the bushes and tree work is due to non-native species and types of plants that don’t generally do well in our climate. These types of evergreens and non-native plants can also lead to heavy water usage, as they aren’t aligned with our drier climate here in San Diego. Water usage can be reduced with xeriscaping and drought tolerant landscape design.
